Notts Sport are the choice of Lord’s

Along with Wembley, Twickenham and The Yankee Stadium, Lord’s is one of the most famous and prestigious sporting stadiums on the planet. Lord’s has been established since 1814 making it one of world’s oldest stadiums.

Notts Sport have recently installed two practice lanes and one match pitch on the Nursery Ground where some of the biggest names in the sport train before they grace the famous Lord’s pitch. The Nursery Ground backs onto the futuristic media centre and it is here where fans can watch Alastair Cook and Michael Clarke preparing their sides as they fight for The Urn in this summer’s Ashes Series.

Notts Sport’s Director of Cricket, Mark Coeshaw, was absolutely delighted with the installation at Lord’s and had this to say; “Being a very eager cricket fan it is a great honour that we will be working alongside Lord’s to deliver a top class facility, Lord’s is one of those places which is recongised by millions of people around the world and for them to be using our product is something to be very proud about”.

Notts Sport changed the old woven surfaces as the groundsman was not satisfied with the performance as it required a lot of maintenance, The Notts Sport tufted surface has now provided the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) with their desired pitch and is now fit for international cricketers.

Notts Sport is the world’s leading supplier of non-turf cricket pitches, with over 10,000 installations in their 30 year history. Notts Sport has dealt with such a wide range of customers ranging from small village cricket clubs to the high profile likes of Lord’s.

Does this spell the end of the tufted and woven argument? Possibly but one thing is for sure; Notts Sport are the choice of Lord’s.

Today we went to a desert island

What is the most effective way of using your play area to stimulate imagination and transform thinking?

A play area can contain a sandpit and some swings. A play area can have a tunnel. A play area can become…

Anything – providing it is built with the right materials and utilises lots of bright colours.

So we have developed a process that gives us up to 15 colours on a surface which encourages activities and interactive, educational play.

It is soft and tactile to touch yet tough enough to endure the stresses and strains of everyday toddler play. And because the surface isn’t sand filled, it offers the ideal solution for play areas both indoors and out.

What’s more it lasts. The typical lifespan of ChildsPlay Nursery is 8 to10 years and it offers limitless potential for imaginative play through its bespoke design possibilities and wide range of bright colours available.

It can be laid over all types of existing surfaces (both inside and out) including concrete, asphalt and rubber – or set out as a completely new installation. It also offers improved grip and can be used immediately after rain.

As you’ll see, every playground is different – which is why the imagination can take off in leaps and bounds. We haven’t yet had a parent come into a nursery following a child’s report about going to a desert island, saying that he/she had not given permission for the child to leave the country – but it is a possibility.

These playgrounds really do become a new world.

Through this fantastic scheme, we provide a completely flexible funding solution that enables you to start earning money back on your brand new facility straight away, so the project can quickly start paying for itself, or it can be a perfect way to have your new facility and spreading the cost over a 5 or 7 year period.

Notts Sport Tufted Cricket Surface – The Choice of Lord’s.

With Lord’s Cricket Ground choosing Notts Sport’s NottsGrass NG12 Tufted surface for the upgrade of their match and practice facilities, I thought I would take a look back to when we first introduced a tufted surface to cricket. Some would say that using a tufted surface for Cricket is a new or unproven concept, but this is definitely not the case.

Looking back at my records, we first developed and introduced a tufted surface for our non-turf cricket pitches back in 2000. That’s a 15 year proven track record with a lot of installations and time to develop what is currently the best cricket surface available.

We didn’t take the development lightly either, enlisting the help and expertise of Sheffield Hallam University, utilising the latest technology at the time to ensure that the surface would perform as well, if not better, than a woven surface. One example of this was filming the ball coming off the surface with a high speed video camera in order the make sure the tufts didn’t have an adverse effect on the performance of the ball when compared to Woven.

Notts Sport Tufted Cricket Surface – The Choice of Lords

Over the years we have continued our research development, which led to the inclusion of the surface in two of our systems which gained ECB approval and eventually all of our systems, when the realisation dawned that tufted was out-performing the woven in terms of wear & tear, as can be seen at the Tufted or Woven website

The new installation at Lord’s feels like the final seal of approval for the work we started 15 years ago to introduce tufted surfaces to the world of cricket, and makes me proud to have been part of that original development.

Notts Sport involved in another top class facility

Notts Sport, the official facilities partners of England Hockey, have delivered another state of the art synthetic hockey pitch project to add to their extensive portfolio of high quality hockey facilities across the UK.

The facility at Boston College in Lincolnshire was completed in February 2015 and the project brief included not just the resurfacing of an existing synthetic pitch but associated features such as new floodlighting and new fencing were also installed as part of the design and specification.

The old surface was already 10 years old when Notts Sport completed a free, no-obligation pitch condition survey in 2012 at which point it was discovered that it was in very poor condition with a resurfacing project planned for 2014/15.

From that first contact, Notts Sport worked with Boston College and external stakeholders such as Boston Hockey Club and England Hockey through the early stages of the development as the project team began identifying a suitable funding route for the college until a breakthrough was made in September 2014.

The funding Boston College received allowed Notts Sport to undertake a competitive tender process with a range of independent contractors for the contract to resurface the pitch with a new FIH compliant surface (England Hockey Category 3) sand filled grass, a new insitu rubber shock pad, new floodlighting, fencing and equipment goals. Along with Hockey the Boston College pitch is also suitable for non competitive football and other sports such as tennis and netball, allowing the students to participate in various sports.

Marie Cooksey from Notts Sport who led the project with Boston College throughout the entire process had this to say about the project. “When I first met the PE staff at the College they were desperate to find a way to replace their disused, run down facility to improve the students sports provision. Following the pitch condition report carried out in September 2012 it was clear that a new surfacing system, fencing and floodlighting were required for the facility to be brought back to modern day standards, as much of the pitch infrastructure was over 20 years old.

There was unfortunately no easy fix for this project. The pitch was forced to closed down in the short term whilst funding options for the much needed refurbishment could take place. I worked closely with Rebecca Clark the College External Funding Manager over a period of two years, providing technical support and specialist guidance.

Following the eventual successful combination of College and external funding (Sport England, England Hockey and WREN), Notts Sport were formally appointed as the Design Consultants and Project Managers. I then worked with a third contact at the College, Shawn Thomas the College Estates Manager for the construction delivery period.

The facility was fully refurbished and completed in February 2015. It was such a fantastic transformation of the facility and to see sport being played on the surface again. The pitch is completely unrecognisable thanks to the quality installation completed by the appointed contractor Charles Lawrence Surfaces who were awarded the contract after the tender process and Halliday Lighting for their specialist lighting provision”

Marie received some excellent feedback from Shawn Thomas, Estates Manager at Boston College. “Marie did a great job in patiently supporting me through the maze of options and as we secured funding and then lost it again, she also kept in regular contact and offered alternative solutions. I believe that her and Notts Sport’s relationships with England Hockey were ultimately of great assistance in helping us secure the last piece of funding for the project so we are very grateful for that.

It has been a pleasure to work with Notts Sport on this project and we would like to thank Marie and the team for the service they provided over a 2 year period, during which we always received prompt, helpful responses and good advice.”

Indianapolis World Sports Park to host International Cricket Tournament

In 2014 Notts Sport installed a Cricket match pitch and practice facility at The Indianapolis World Sports Park in the USA. The sports park has now been announced as the hosts for an International cricket tournament this spring. Canada, Bermuda, Suriname and the USA are the countries participating in this event. The Pepsi ICC have announced that the T20 Championship will be held from the 3rd to the 9th of May and it has been a very long time coming for American cricket fans who were supposed to have a cricket event held here last year before it was controversially cancelled.

Mark Coeshaw from Notts Sport who was at the forefront in supplying the pitch had this to say,“We are supplying more and more facilities in to the US, interest seems to have really gained momentum over the last few years. The World Sports Park is a fantastic ‘flagship’ site for US cricket and so it’s great that they have selected Notts Sport and quite rightly have chosen the very best performing, longest lasting, most cost effective system for such a prestigious site.  The portable Powerplay Instant Pitch is, in particular, proving to be remarkably popular within North America as it facilitates cricket where the sport is new and/or traditional pitches have not been developed”. The Notts Sport pitch, which is a 30m ECB Approved NottsBase ‘D’ System NG12, was installed in May 2014 along with a Triple Lane Practice facility and a Powerplay Instant Cricket System. Simon Glover from Notts Sport who helped install the facility with Don Zanzie from Turf Solutions Group had this to say “It was a pleasure installing this pitch, The Indianapolis World Sports Park is a truly state of the art facility and I am thrilled to see that an International Cricket Tournament will be played there”. Simon has been in the Synthetic Surfacing business for 24 years and also said this “I have installed hundreds of sport and playground surfaces all around the world but the Indianapolis World Sports Park is one which always stands out”.

The Championship will act as a qualifier and the top two teams will proceed to the ICC World T20 tournament 2016 which is being held in India. Many believe this event could kick start cricket in the USA for a country which really loves its sport. “Being an ex-cricket player and still being involved as a fan, I love to see as much cricket as possible, and for me it is like a dream come true” Said Patel from the American Cricket Federation.

Notts Sport are the world’s leading supplier of non-turf cricket pitches and they have installed over 10,000 pitches worldwide. They are the official partner of the Pepsi ICC Development Programme, the Official Supplier of Cricket Ireland and they also supply ECB approved pitch systems.
